Actelion values partnerships with individual young investigators to advance quality medical care and to enhance patients' lives by supporting clinical endothelin research related to heart, lung and vascular diseases.

The Actelion Endothelin Research Awards programme provides promising young investigators grants  up to 100,000 Swiss Francs (CHF) towards mentored research projects for a maximum period of 12 months. Only clinical projects with patient involvement will be evaluated and considered for funding.

Grants are awarded based on scientific merit, originality, feasibility / ability to prove the hypothesis, and applicability to endothelin research. A condition of grant application is the supervision by an appropriate mentor. Drugs used in the submitted studies must have been approved in the country where the study will be conducted. Receiving a grant in no way implies that the recipient is obliged to recommend or prescribe any Actelion products.

AERA is part of a global programme showing Actelion's commitment to endothelin research. Investigator-initiated clinical trials for young researchers at universities and research institutes are supported in all countries except the US - a dedicated programme has been developed for the US (www.entelligencemd.org).

If your project is approved for funding, you will be responsible for all aspects of your research. You will be provided with an agreement, which you have to sign and return within 90 days together with selected additional documents, which will include (but are not limited to):

  • Institutional Review / Ethical committee approval
    for the submitted study
  • Clinical study protocol
  • Sample informed consent documents

Please note that no funds will be disbursed prior to complete submission of the above documents. Failure to submit requested documents within the given deadline may result in withdrawal of funds. A sample agreement is available for download. By submitting the application form and by signing the agreement, the principal investigator agrees that experiments conducted with AERA funds are compliant with the ethical conduct of research as expressed in the latest version of the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki.
